Commuting by Cycling

commuting by bike
Riding your bike is a fun commute option.

Cycling is a great way to get exercise.

More than just a recreational sport, riding your bike to work is a fun commuting option.

Depending on your fitness level and distance from work, you can bike the entire trip or just part of it.

Some public buses are equipped with bike racks on the front of the bus so you can ride to a bus stop, mount your bike on the rack, and ride the rest of the way in air conditioned comfort.

The many bike trails throughout the GTA make cycling a pleasant way to get to work. York Region Transit accommodates cyclists.  See more information on biking sites listed on our "Links" page.

Online Cycling Survey

An on-line survey is now available to assess the current usage of Markham's cycling network and programs, and to support future cycling network implementation.

Cycling is increasing in popularity as a recreational activity and as an efficient, enjoyable, environmentally-friendly and health-conscious mode of transportation.

Do you enjoy cycling in Markham, and if you don't cycle, why not?

As a start, the Town's Cycling Master Plan established the neighborhood bike route network – 112 km of signed on-road routes and bicycle lanes and now looks to the development of the ultimate Town-wide cycling plan - an integrated cycling network that will become a key component of the local transportation and recreational trail system.

The online survey consists of multiple choice and open-ended questions, and should take approximately 10 -15 minutes to complete. Your responses are invaluable to the Town, in assessing the current usage of Markham's cycling network and programs, and guiding future cycling network implementation. All responses are confidential and no personally identifying information is collected.
